Choosing a Departure Hub for Your Indonesian Helper
Already selected your helper? Compare departure hubs by her actual starting point, appointment locations and Singapore entry readiness before choosing a route.

In short
- Choose a departure hub from your helper’s actual starting point, appointment locations and confirmed connections—not a city label.
- A Singapore arrival checkpoint does not confirm an Indonesian departure terminal or an available flight or ferry.
- Check IPA particulars, validity and Singapore arrival preparations before committing to an itinerary.

Your helper is ready to travel from Indonesia, but which airport or ferry terminal should she depart from? Start with her actual location, the appointments she still needs and the Singapore entry preparations you must complete. A familiar city name is not enough to choose a route.
This guide is for a Singapore employer who has already selected an Indonesian helper. It focuses on how to compare possible departure hubs, not on prescribing one. Indohelper can coordinate Indonesia-side planned processing and departure arrangements; the appropriate journey still depends on the individual case. If you are working through the broader preparation sequence, see Planned Processing.
#Start with the journey she would actually make
Ask where your helper will start on the day she travels, rather than relying on a broad city or regional label. Confirm the pickup address with her and distinguish it from any address used for earlier appointments. If she must attend a document or medical appointment, record where that appointment will take place and whether it has been arranged. These are separate planning questions from the final trip to a departure terminal.
Next, sketch each possible journey from that starting point to the proposed Indonesian departure hub, then from the hub to the proposed Singapore arrival point. Note every connection that would need confirmation. The purpose is not to pick the shortest-looking line on a map; it is to identify what must be arranged and where an assumption could disrupt the plan.
A route that looks convenient from the employer’s perspective may involve an unconfirmed local transfer for the helper. Equally, the nearest familiar hub may not fit the appointment locations or travel schedule. Compare the whole journey only after you know her actual starting point and what preparation remains.
#Separate departure planning from Singapore arrival
An Indonesian departure hub and a Singapore arrival checkpoint answer different questions. The departure choice depends on the helper’s location, preparation and available itinerary. The arrival choice is part of confirming where the proposed journey would bring her into Singapore. Neither choice, by itself, confirms that a particular flight or ferry is available or suitable.
As of October 2026, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s (ICA) checkpoint list includes airport and sea checkpoints, including Singapore Cruise Centre (HarbourFront) and Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. That list identifies Singapore checkpoints; it does not tell you which Indonesian terminal your helper should use, whether a direct service exists, or whether a sailing can be booked for her case.
For each itinerary under consideration, ask the travel coordinator to identify the actual Indonesian departure point, every connection and the intended Singapore arrival point. Confirm the schedule and transfer arrangements for that itinerary rather than inferring them from the checkpoint name. If those details are not yet available, keep the route provisional.
This distinction matters when comparing journeys involving more than one leg. A proposed arrival at a Singapore sea checkpoint does not settle how your helper gets to an Indonesian ferry terminal. Likewise, choosing an Indonesian airport does not establish that the remaining journey is ready.
#Check entry readiness before committing to a route
As of October 2026, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) says that, when an application is approved, the employer receives an in-principle approval (IPA) letter and must send the helper her copy for entry into Singapore. MOM also says to check that the IPA particulars match her passport details; an error left uncorrected can result in denied entry. Check the particulars and current IPA validity before treating a travel date as settled. If something needs correction or the validity needs attention, use MOM’s guidance rather than assuming travel can proceed.
For a non-Malaysian helper, MOM also requires the employer to arrange a security bond that takes effect when she arrives. MOM says an immigration officer will not allow her to enter if the bond is not effective. Confirm this with the employer or the party handling the employer’s Singapore-side arrangements before fixing her arrival plan.
As of October 2026, ICA’s entry requirements say travellers must submit the SG Arrival Card within three days, including the arrival day, before entering Singapore, subject to ICA’s stated exceptions. ICA’s listed exception for long-term pass holders entering via land checkpoints does not cover arrival by air or sea. Check the current ICA page for the proposed journey rather than assuming an exception applies.
These Singapore-side checks do not confirm Indonesia-side departure clearance. Nor does an IPA promise admission to Singapore. Keep entry readiness and departure preparation as separate items, and confirm both before committing to an itinerary.
#Compare options without assuming a fixed hub
Once you have the starting point, appointment locations and entry-readiness checks, compare plausible hubs against the same questions. How would your helper reach each one? Which transfers and connections have been confirmed? Does the proposed schedule fit the preparation she still needs? What would have to change if an appointment or document is not ready?
Do not let a convenient-looking ticket decide the hub before those questions have answers. A comparison is more useful when it exposes missing information than when it produces an early winner. You can mark an option as possible while its travel schedule or connections remain unconfirmed, then revisit it when those details are available.
The same approach applies if your helper’s starting location changes. Recheck the journey from the new address instead of carrying forward a route chosen for the old one. For a wider look at preparation before travel, use the document preparation guide; for steps after Singapore Work Permit approval, see the Indonesia-side processing guide.
Indohelper coordinates Indonesia-side processing, domestic travel, Singapore travel arrangements and departure handling for a helper you have already selected. It does not issue passports, medical results or Work Permits, and it does not make immigration decisions. Ask the relevant authority to confirm any departure requirement that has not been established for your helper’s circumstances.
#Departure Hub Checklist
Confirm your helper’s actual starting address and where she would leave from on the travel day.
List any outstanding document or medical appointments and their confirmed locations.
Identify each proposed Indonesian departure point and the connections needed to reach it.
Confirm the intended Singapore arrival point and the itinerary’s actual availability with the travel coordinator.
Check her current IPA validity and match its particulars against her passport, following MOM’s instructions if a correction is needed.
Confirm the employer’s Singapore-side arrival preparations, including the effective security bond for a non-Malaysian helper under MOM’s guidance.
Check the applicable ICA entry requirements for the proposed arrival.
Ask the relevant Indonesian authority which departure checks or documents apply to this helper’s circumstances; do not infer them from a proposed hub.
#FAQ
Should I choose the hub closest to my helper’s home?
Not on distance alone. Start with her actual address, then compare the complete journey alongside appointment locations, confirmed connections and the proposed travel schedule. A nearby hub is only useful if the rest of the plan works for her case.
Does a Singapore ferry checkpoint tell me which Indonesian terminal to book?
No. ICA’s checkpoint list identifies Singapore arrival checkpoints, not Indonesian departure terminals or bookable services. Confirm both ends of the specific itinerary, including any transfer needed to reach the Indonesian terminal.
Can I book once my helper has an IPA?
Treat the IPA as one important check, not as confirmation that the entire journey is ready. MOM says her IPA particulars must match her passport and that she needs her copy to enter Singapore. Confirm its current validity, the employer’s arrival preparations and the remaining Indonesia-side requirements before settling travel.
Who confirms whether an Indonesian departure requirement applies?
Ask the relevant Indonesian authority about the requirement for your helper’s specific circumstances. The proposed hub and itinerary do not establish which departure checks or documents apply. Indohelper can coordinate preparation and departure handling, but an authority makes its own decisions.
